You may have noticed that I’ve talked about wellness on the site a lot this year. It’s so important to maintain your health – mental and physical – and that includes finding inner peace. This isn’t something you just have one day, but cultivate with routine wellness practices and constant self-discovery. Honestly, this post could easily be 10 or 15 items deep. There are so many ways we humans can find peace. And starting from the inside out doesn’t just help us in our own lives – it paves the way for bringing that peace to a world that really needs it.

Give Back – Big or small, giving back doesn’t just affect the person you’re helping, but it does a world of good for you too. Giving helps give people purpose, making us realize we’re part of something bigger than ourselves. If you don’t believe me, consider the recent study that showed how giving back increases happiness, health and social connectedness. I think we all know that giving back to society is a positive thing, but that extra motivation of feeling more at peace (and connected to others) can make a world of difference. 

Practice Art – If you haven’t tried an adult coloring book to relax and ease anxiety with before, you’ll want to give it a try. For me, art comes naturally – putting pen to paper is something that certainly didn’t stop at childhood for me. But for so many other adults, it does. Adult coloring books have become popular due to their therapeutic effects on the mind – taking the time to sit down and concentrate on something other than those racing thoughts or mounting to-do lists has proven to help calm the mind. Take time out of your busy day for a creative routine that makes you feel relaxed – the solitude promotes self-discovery and rejuvenation.

Stimulate Your Senses – I’ve talked about using scents and flavors to help you relax, as it’s a great way to wind down after a long day. Whether you’re using lavender oil in your diffuser to promote restful sleep or utilizing sound therapy to banish feelings of anxiety, becoming attuned to your senses is one way to promote inner peace. Why? Because practices like this – anything from aromatherapy to hearing sounds that soothe your soul – put you in a more relaxed state, making it easier to look inward. Then, when faced with the stresses of life, you’re able to heal with it in a healthy way. 

Embrace Your Flaws – Inner peace isn’t about finding ways to solve problems that are beyond your control, it’s about being satisfied with how the way things are – how YOU are. When you’re at peace with yourself, you can bring peace to the world. That’s why it’s important to embrace your (perceived) flaws. Accepting these things that make you uniquely “you” as something not to change or hide but to CELEBRATE opens the door to inner harmony, not to mention takes a TON of pressure off!

Cross Something Off Your Bucket List – How does this promote inner peace, you ask? Well, bucket lists aren’t generally your typical goals or resolutions. They’re full of things you want to do, whether it’s travel solo for the first time or another risk you want to take, these lists are often full of our hopes and dreams. These things keep us going, but how often do they get buried under the clutter of the everyday? Even if they’re not directly related to your health goal or journey to happiness, taking the time to do something simply because it’s fulfilling is another way to find peace.
