Hi everyone,
If I had to choose one beauty faux pas that drives me crazier than any other, it would have to be spidery lashes. Every time I see someone making this misstep, I want to run up and fix their lashes for them. It’s that bad!! Sometimes we all pile on a bit too much mascara, and we end up looking like Twiggy-gone-wrong. Luckily, there’s an easy fix to this problem. All you need is a mechanical pencil, or if you feel comfortable enough using it, a safety pin.

The moment you realize you’ve got spidery lashes, take the mechanical pencil and start to separate the chunks. Insert the tip of the mechanical pencil at the “base” of the clump.

Pull the mechanical pencil upwards and outwards to separate the lashes. You might have to do this a few times for each chunk of clumped lashes to fully detach them from one another.

Continue doing this across all your lashes until the spidery lashes have disappeared. Just do so very carefully to avoid poking your eye. I know it sounds scary to hold up a sharp pointy object to your eye, but it really does work!
Do you have any tips or tricks for getting rid of spidery lashes? Share them in the comments section!

The first thing I do when working on someone is to use a good mascara. All of my mascaras are by Maybelline. They just seem to work well. Second, treat your mascara well so it won't dry out and cause this godawful mistake to happen. Third, as a part of my brush and tool set, I have a clean mascara wand with fiber bristles.
And my beauty faux pas, besides the spider leg mascara, lip liner that's either too dark for the lipstick or lip liner by itself. Why someone would find this attractive is beyond me. Cakey foundation. Overly powdered skin. Raccoon-style eyeliner. The dreaded "Line of Demarcation" from either unblended foundation or foundation that doesn't match their skin tone. The whiteout-looking Kim Kardashian Koncealer (misspelled cause it's punny XP )
Ok...I think that's all... -

For some reason, spidery lashes are in this season! I don't understand it! I find spidery eyelashes disgusting-looking! Thanks for the info, BTW! cx -
Just don't apply 20 coats of mascara :) Easy and safe!

a better (and safer) way to fix spidery eye lashes. use the hard plastic end of a brow tool to brushes your eyelashes apart. -
I do this with a lashcomb, spooly, or toothpick sometimes. Also, a less scary way of getting rid of clumps is taking a tissue, wetting it with water, and place it lightly against the base of your lashes in a pinching motion, the pull directly away from you with a LIGHT amount of pressure, it will soften your lashes enough so that you can fit it with a more blunt object, even pinching it with your nails will do. -
The Sonia Kashuk eyelash brush works amazing! You can but it at Target and it separates the lashes really well. Might be a bit safer than a pencil if someone isn't comfortable working that closely to their eyeball. -
I hate spidery lashes! I always keep a clean mascara wand near by!

I always did that with a pin.. N my friends all looked at me weird.. Until i found the lash comb., =) much faster n less scary than using a safety pin.. -
My lashes are naturally thin do to my mom (genetics ): ) so I honestly can't help but have spidery lashes which sucks. I'm only 14 so wearing fake lashes would be too grown up for me I guess you could say, but this does help me so thank you ^_^ -

I comb my lashes with a fine toothed plastic comb (meant to be used as a nitcomb) after applying mascara. This separates EVERY lash with minimum effort -

when you apply the mascara slowly, it has less spider

Hi Michelle,
I can't agree more with what you said about the spidery lashes!
As a make up artist myself, I'm definitely not a big fan of what we call "cockroach legs lashes"in HK.
For most beginners who apply their own make up, they tend to have a higher tendency of applying too much mascara. But it might be quite dangerous for them to use the mechanical pen or even safety pin to separate the lashes.
Therefore, I have an alternative method to separate the lashes.
I suggest that they can use the mascara wand (the ones you can get for free in most cosmetics shops like MAC, NARS, etc) and put the fourth finger on their eyelids and use the wand to brush the lashes. If you brush hard enough, most of the lumps from mascara will be easily brushed out without even the chance of poking anything into the eye.
I hope this helps :)
If you are interested, I have also made some make up videos/demo to teach Asians how to do their own natural and evening make up.

Personally, I'm terrified of poking out my eye with a mechanical pencil so instead I bought a eyelash comb from Sonia Kashuk. If you don't want to spend the money, although it is literally $5, you can always use a old spoolie to comb through your lashes. or if you want to go even simpler (!) then while applying your mascara move the spoolie horizontally to separate each lash.

I rarely have this problem, but when I do, I use a Lash comb...never thought of the pencil or pin....Very good idea, lets see if I am daring enough to try it!
As always, thanks for the tips!

i'd be scared to poke my eye out with the pencil! i fix spidery lashes with a clean mascara spoolie, but that doesnt happen too often since i tend to go for lengthening mascaras over volumising ones that clump easily. HTTP://CLOUDSANDCUTICLEOIL.BLOGSPOT.CO.UK/ xx -
Wouldn't a lash comb suffice? Just saying, and this could also be fixed with a little eye makeup remover on a spoolie, just pass it through the lashes a few times and the mascara chunks would be gone and you can "retouch" the mascara afterwards if you wanted to.
