Beauty School: Priceless Product Design

Hi everyone,

If a product has an amazing package or design, I'm usually intrigued to see what it's all about. I can sometimes be a sucker for cool/unique product designs from certain brands and, depending on what it is, I'm willing to pay a little more for aesthetics.

But how much influence should design have on whether or not we buy a lipstick or blush palette? Some brands put a lot of time and money into making their products physically desirable. If something is wrapped in pretty packaging or has intricate art worked into the actual product, and it seems like the price tag immediately goes up.

Since amazing packaging usually comes at a more expensive price, I think we should first think about what's inside a product before we buy. You should look for makeup products with ingredients that work well with your skin type, and colors that will give you the desired look you're going for. If it comes in a cool bottle, tin or tube, then consider it a bonus!

So I'm curious; does product packaging and design have a big influence on your makeup purchases? Would you be more inclined to buy a product if it comes in a pretty palette or cool-looking tube?

What's your favorite beauty product design or packaging?

<3 Mish

Packaging really does not matter in the end - I will admit it catches my eye quicker. I'll go and investigate it first - but price and quality usually win at the end of the day.

I love cute, pretty, unique or artistic design palette. But stuffs like these are always have pros and cons..

Some products are really good in quality (depends on the brand) but some products doesn't... So when I have chances to buy cool things, I will consider on it's price tag first, secondly the brand and finally the ingredient..

I say yes, many people buy product because they were attracted to the packaging while others see what the product does before deciding if it's worth buying. My favorite designs would have to be roses or fleur de lis, but since I usually buy products for what they are rather from their packaging I get pretty good looking stuff that's also good.

I looove cute packaging. Sadly, where I live not many make up with cute packaging is in stores. That could be both a good and a bad thing. Bad, because I never have any of the super cute stuff, but good because I can save my moneyby not being suckered into packaging (especially if the product sucks).

Even though I'm attracted at first by some designs, I buy what I need to buy and from the brands I trust in. I've never bought something by its design. I prefer paying attention to what's in it, not outside it.

Sadly, yes. I'm also a sucker for beautiful designs, sleek packaging and those big price tags! Gah!

I'm not sure about any of you, but when I use NARS, Benefit, and Smashbox products I feel more trendy and professional, but really I SHOULD be more focused on the ingredients and quality of the products! These big Brand- name products are in Ads everywhere and are easily recognizable to our friends and family, but a lot of the time I don't like the colors or texture of them at all!

Coastal scents, and a lot of drug store brands are not only affordable, but also very good quality! Don't knock em' til you try em'!

      Hey Michelle!

I went shopping with my friend once, and we were in a make-up store. She found a really lipgloss in a cut frog container. She loved it so much, that she bought it without seeing what colour it was. Afterwards when she wanted to use it, she foun out it was green mint flavoured lipgloss! hahahahaha, we laughed our heads off!

      Bye x

I'd say packaging doesn't determine whether I'll buy a produc tor not.

packaging really adds a plus factor.. but if the product itself has bad reviews or bad quality... I won't go for it. besides.. what you pay for is the 'use' :)

      Dear michelle,

Everytime I go outside I always wear circle lenses. It is turning into a daily routine. And I cannot wear them all the time , becuase of the danger of a eye infection and come on I cannot always wear circle lenses my whole life. I feel I look very ugly without my circle lenses and the makeup I do is also horrible without my circle lenses. My eyes aren't exactly typical asian eyes, but you can tell I am asian, and they are pretty big but very strange looking and they are shaped sort of weird. And my pupils are very dark brown. I was wondering if you can create a natrual looking makeup tutorial to help. Or a tutorial that will give me the illusion of circle lenses. I don't mind looking like I have very tiney eyes. I just want to able to go out without feeling so insecure. Thank you :)

As a teenager, I can't really afford to splurge on rose engraved blush or see through plastic lipstick. But if I could, I know it'd make putting on makeup a lot more fun!

I have Tarte Lipstick in the color "Foxy," and I was INSTANTLY attracted to it! It's sooo Cool! What I love most about it is that not only does it come in awesome packaging, but it's also water proof! Now I can go jump in the pool without goopy lipstick or gloss hanging around! Check it out Michelle!
