Hi everyone,
Overindulging over Thanksgiving isn’t quite conducive to feeling beautiful and elegant. As the leftovers in the fridge slowly dwindle away, I like to take this time to give myself a healthy detox to reboot my skin, body, and mind. I wanted to share with you my personal Thanksgiving detox plan with you all so that you can start to feel like your beautiful selves again!
Drink lots of hot water, ginger, lemon, and honey. Simply pour yourself a mug of hot water, and add 1 tablespoon of Manuka honey, 3-4 dices of ginger root, and half a lemon. For an extra kick, add a dash of hot red pepper flakes. This warm concoction is the ultimate way to flush out your system. Ginger is well known for its digestive and anti-inflammatory properties, and it’s a natural remedy for nausea and heartburn (read: food coma). Lemon not only helps balance your body’s pH levels, but it also aids digestion by acting as a gentle diuretic. Honey is another digestive aid, will soothe inflammation, and can boost your immune system. Manuka honey has particularly strong digestive and antibacterial properties.
Exfoliate your face and body. Exfoliation is crucial for getting rid of dead skin cells, and it will make you feel refreshed and clean. This will promote skin cell regeneration, so say goodbye to dull, lackluster skin.
Give yourself a frozen washcloth facial. Get rid of any puffiness in your face by placing a folded wet washcloth in the freezer overnight. The next morning, unfold it, put cucumber slices on your eyes, and lay the washcloth over your face for five minutes.
Take an Epsom salt detox bath. Another name for Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate, which helps eliminate any toxins in the body and relieves aches and pains. Place 1 cup of Epsom salt, 1 cup of sea salt, 1 cup of baking soda, 10-15 drop of eucalyptus oil, and 5-10 drops of an essential oil of your choice in a warm bath. Soak in the water for 20 minutes, and then take a lukewarm shower afterwards to rinse off.
Continue to get lots of sleep. One of my favorite things about the holidays is catching up on sleep. As we head into December, our stress levels are bound to increase due to the approaching holidays, higher amounts of work, and shorter days. Reboot your system every night by making sure you get at least 7 hours of sleep.

NINA you can use honey anytime! It doesnt matter what kind of honey you use but it has to be the original honey! My mother always told me "when your honey is becoming a little crystallized, it means its good" Im telling you this because nowadays you can buy something like honey sugar liquid or what the hell it is but it is FAKE! it contains zero honey just a looooot of sugar. You always have to look at ingredients because honey is just honey without other components.
Lemon and ginger poured in honey is my everything especially when I am sick. So its very VERY GOOD for your health. So give it a try dont worry :)
Btw look at wikipedia for more info about honey :) -

Thanks Michelle for the tip. -
To exfoliate my skin, can I just use my pumice stone with my face soap on it and very, very, very gently rub it on my face? Please respond!! ;p -

Start running for small amounts of time on the treadmill? I dunno, but I seriously need to get back into the mindset of viewing food as a resource, fuel, relief from hunger pains, and long term benefits instead of a minute of pleasure.
The frozen washcloth thing sounds fun...Maybe I'll do that on the weekend. Hopefully I won't be watching Wicked then...All the other stuff sounds messy and complicated. Honestly, I would just go with simply working out hard, eating healthily, and laughing a lot. -
This is a great post!! I always feel so bleeeeh after Thanksgiving plus I love pampering my face.

Great tips, Michell! I personally love the salt baths but I've never used a Epsom salt. I'm gonna try it, though!
This hot water-ginger-lemon-honey drink is amazing! I used to drink it without ginger but I tried it and it gives so much better effect! And it tastes delicious too! :) -
Thanks, Japei Lee, for the tips. I love honey tea. Lukewarm water it is!

Happy Monday! -
Hi Mish, I remember reading health articles advising not to mix honey with hot water cause the high temperature will destroy the goodness in honey. Luke warm or room temperature would be better. Also, we must avoid using metal spoon to scoop honey, use wooden or plastic ones~ -
I personally love to drink a small cup (ie a shot glass) of Pu-erh tea. It's a black tea with a woody flavour that helps cleanse the stomach and aids digestion and weight loss. My local tea merchant recommends 3 cups a day, and only drinking water in between.
I also enjoy morning and evening yoga to help energise and relax my body.
Bath salts are great, but I also like to take a trip to a steam room at some point after the holidays - the place I go to use detoxifying body products. I always feel really tired and drained after a session but my skin really thanks me for it if I drink enough after the session.
And also if my skin feels really dry, I will cleanse my face, and run a bath, then apply a layer of face cream and just lie there - it's such a good way to hydrate the skin! :) -
I like to make an infused water (with Cucumber, Mint and Lemon) and drink a lot of that daily...I also like to do pore strips on Sunday nights, and a masque....it helps me wake up on Monday feeling refreshed!
Thanks for the tips!
