Hi everyone,
As you’ve probably noticed in my tutorials, one of the first things I usually do before I dive into applying make up is put on lip balm. Although it may seem a bit odd to the unsuspecting eye, I’ve found that it’s the most effective and timely way to hydrate my lips. I find that letting my lip balm set in while I do my makeup is the best way to create the perfect foundation for any lip color you’ll add to complete your look. We all want luscious lips, and the last thing you want to do is apply lipstick or lip liner to dry, chapped lips.
By applying chapstick or lip balm first, the product will have adequate time to soak into your lips, creating a smooth, supple base for whatever lip look you may be creating. Your lipstick will glide on smoothly, and it won’t look uneven. If you apply any sort of hydrating product right before lipstick, your lips won’t actually be able to absorb any of the moisture. It’ll also create a strange mixture of balm and lipstick that has a goopy consistency, which isn’t ideal for smooth, kissable lips.
Do you have a favorite lip balm that you apply before the rest of your makeup? Tell me what they are, and I’ll post a product roundup of your faves!
<3 Mish

I am a huge fan of lip balm in general, and have three favorites that I always keep near by: Eos lip balm in sweet mint, SPF cherry Carmex, and this random find I found called Skinnutritions, which works really well when applied before bed. -

I totally agree! My secret to smooth radiant lips is to apply lip balm before any lip product you use, including lip-gloss! This allows you lip product to glide on more smoothly and will last longer :)

I read that chapsticks have a chemical that peels your lips so you end up buying more? Is that true for lip balms? -

Being in the middle east, the number one beauty issue you'll have is terrible dry skin and that includes dry, chapped lips. So you'll have to use a really good moisturizer to maintain a healthy looking skin. To treat my dry, chapped lips, I've been using Ducray Kelyane HD Nourishing and Repairing Lip Balm for more than a year now. It is really great! My lips is not peeling anymore and it keeps your lips hydrated all the time. :) And yes Michelle, it really works when you use it before applying your favorite lipstick to prevent chapping, it makes your lips more kissable :). -
Hi Michelle! Whenever I apply lipstick or lip balm, I always end up getting a white gooey ring forming around my lips. Can you please make a video on how to prevent it? It's really annoying and unattractive and I can't find any ways to get rid of it! -
I love Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm! Its inexpensive and works great!

Jack Black lip balm, definitely! I have it in Mint and Shea Butter, and it's just such a soothing lip balm that doesn't sit on your lips, but actually absorbs into them, and my lips just drink this stuff up! My lips are so smooth now <3 =) -
Rosebud Salve!!! It is so soothing and moisturizing. It now comes in a small easy to apply tube instead of the tin. Don't get me wrong, the tin is adorable but applying it with fingers is messy. -
Buddha Balm is the best lip balm on the market. They have been around for a few years, but their formula is better than ever. -
I also do that! Right now I am using the Blood Orange one I bought at H&M. I also use one I got from Reserve Naturelle ( French brand) and vaseline before going to bed at night. This has not only been keeping my lips hydrated and soft, but also fixed the discolouration around my lips :) -
I use before I put on makeup too~
I also apply vaseline or pj before I go to sleep so my lips stay moisturized throughout the night. This really helps me prevent getting chapped lips. Or keep lip balm on your nightstand it's a life savor. :)
