Hi everyone,
I am very excited to bring to you a new series on MichellePhan.com: Canvas to Closet! By looking at artwork, I will help you create outfits inspired by what you see on the canvas. To kick off Canvas to Closet, we're going to take a look at Alice in Wonderland III by illustrator Arthur Rackham.
Rackham is best known for illustrating Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, Alice in Wonderland, Rip Van Winkle, and The Wind in the Willows. He had a unique style that vaguely resembles photography, and he really understood the myth and folklore at the core of the children's books. I love his illustrations from Alice in Wonderland because they are whimsical but eerie at the same time. It's this balance of light and dark that you'll want to keep in mind when putting together an outfit.

Paul & Joe Sister Floral Crochet Lace Dress
Topshop Maze' Lace-Up Flat
Mango Touch-Suede Bucket Bag
Topshop Red Rose' Tights
Precious Cluster Barrette
Throw on this ensemble for weekend brunch, school, or even just to grab some coffee! Or ramen ^__^
What does Rackham's Alice in Wonderland III inspire you to wear? Tell me in the comments section!

I absolutely love the concept "from canvas to closet". I'm in love with art and think the best inspiration comes from it. I can't wait to see what else you come up with.

All the items look great. I'll most certainly buy a pair of tights like these for this season and the bag is fun. There's just one thing. I know it's probably a lot of trouble and expenses to buy everything and wear it together but I'm having trouble picturing the whole outfit when it's not on a person. For example, the dress is probably great but it looks kinda baggy without a body in it and I don't get a feel of how it falls (crochet can be a little stiff sometimes).

I'm with you on the dark tights with a light dress - I wouldn't normally pair the two, but I think it works! And I love a good red accent anywhere!

I love the dress; even when it's winter I wear skirts and dresses so this dress would be perfict for the winter season and for the Alice and Wonderland theme which you have up.
