Hi everyone,
Sometimes it's hard to believe the ingredients that can be found in beauty and skincare products. Snail slime is one thing, but I don't think many of us are in a hurry to have a bird poop facial, am I right?
Known as "geisha facials", or uguisu no fun, this new trendy treatment has actually been around for quite some time. It started in Japan because superstition held that if a bird pooped on you, you'd be blessed with good luck. (Weird how that became lucky, right?!) Geisha facials are literally made with nightingale feces, and even though it sounds really gross, the actual process of obtaining this special "ingredient" isn't as terrible as you may think.
Japan has specific nightingale farms where they breed and raise birds and keep them on a very strict diet of organic seeds. They collect the poop from cages and sanitize it with special UV lights, then dry it out and grind it into a powder. Day spas offer this treatment for a pretty penny, but bird poop facials are said to help hydrate your skin and give it an iridescent shimmer for a brighter-looking complexion. Not too crappy... Ha!
Would you ever get a bird poop facial?

One has to wonder, "How did they find out that these particular natural...happenings, were good for facials and skin care?" I mean I found out that eggs are good for skin and hair after a messy egg fight at camp. We would all get in the shower after and the next morning everyone would be touching eachother's hair and face because everything was soft and shiny. ^^ But bird feces? I don't imagine that they had any bird poo fights in ancient Japan.

I might try it... with some noseplugs :P on that note, though, do you think it would be too ambitious to do a REAL geisha makeup tutorial, Michelle? I know the components necessary for the white and red makeup are pretty specialised and the application is really specific, but I think it'd be a fascinating exploration into that particular style of beauty.

I think this was started because the white foundation geishas used was made from nightingale droppings. I learned this from Memoires of a Geisha, you can learn all sorts of intresting things from that book!

Hell to the NO! Way to gross! I'll stick with using makeup when I gotta to cover up my blemishes.
BTW, thanks for the tips on mascara, I LOVE FALSIES by Maybelline! <3
