Hi everyone,
As the weather begins to cool, our skin becomes more high maintenance. The best thing you can do to keep your skin healthy and fresh till spring is to exfoliate and moisturize, and this Sugar & Olive Oil scrub does both!
Sugar Olive Oil Scrub
You Need:
- 3 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 2 Tablespoons Organic Honey (does not have to be organic, regular honey is fine too)
- ½ Cup Organic Sugar (does not have to be organic, regular sugar is fine too, but no Splenda)
- Measuring utensils
- 1 Chopstick or stirring stick
- 1 Clean container
Steps:
- Add the extra virgin olive oil to your container.
- Next, add the honey.
NOTE: Adding in this order will help to get all the honey out of the measuring utensil - Add the sugar to the mixture.
- Stir well with the chopstick or stirring stick.
Ta-da!
Tips:
- These amounts don't need to be exact, and you can adjust the proportions as needed.
- Do not store in the fridge – this will harden the mixture, which you do not want.
- Don't be afraid of the oil! It won't clog your pores!
To Apply:
- Wash your face and make sure your makeup is completely removed before applying the scrub
- Use a tiny spatula to scoop 1 little scoopful, and apply all over your face
- Scrub in a broad, circular motion (avoid your eye area!)
- After about 60 seconds, rinse off the mixture
- Pat dry your face
- Usually, my skin feels thoroughly moisturized, and I only apply my eye cream and acne solution after drying. But if you feel your skin still needs it, you can also apply moisturizer at this step.
- Use only at nighttime, but not recommended for nightly use. If you have sensitive skin, try using it once a week. If you have oily skin, twice using it once a week or every 3-4 days.
This scrub is natural, organic and fresh, and it should last you up to 30 days. It works great on any type of skin, too; I've used it every winter, and I've never had a problem with it.
BONUS: This scrub also works great on dry or rough skin on the rest of your body. Apply it to your heels and feet for an at-home pedi treatment!
Let me know if you give it a try!

Michelle, please let me know whether it's okay for me to substitute the extra virgin olive oil with extra light olive oil. I really want know because I have a lot of extra light olive oil and I wanna know whether the latter is suitable for dry skin as well? -
Just made this and used it and feel like a new woman! I will turn 50 in September and in the last year my skin has become very dry (went through early menopause). Flakey dry skin has been my constant companion, and with allergies to mineral oil, most cosmetics make me break out in a rash or worse.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! -
Hey Michelle, could you list some good acne solutions, and ones that you could find at cvs or Walmart or wallgreens or something. -

Is it okay to use pure almond oil instead of extra virgin olive oil? I'm really broke and don't have enough to buy some...:/

I love this! My skin gets dry so much, I think I am going to try this out and the reviews and comments say it is pretty good. :) Can't wait.

anyone with combination skin to try this too. Although the scrub is mostly for dry skin or least what it says.
:)
Sorry for that confusion.

I tried this scrub and it smoothed out my skin and it helped cleared my skin. I still use this scub this day and I have not had a single blemish since. This works for me and I recommend anyone with dry or if you have combination skin (like I do)
I thank Michelle for sharing this with us! <3

This is the best scrub! I've been using it since the days of ricebunny. I have keratosis pilaris, and this, combined with a regimen of C.O. Bigelow's Derma Remedy body wash and lotion makes my skin feel almost like a normal person's. I use it year round on my arms and legs, and I use it any time I see my face needs a blast of hydration. Thank you so very much for this, Michelle!

I tried this for the 1st time today, and I didn't like how my skin felt so oily afterwards. So I washed my face like 3 times to remove all the oil. Then I used a tonic to close my pores (no alcohol). My skin does feel better and clean. I'll continue to use it and tell you more in a month or so! ;)

I adore this recipe, and my shower is always stocked with it. I usually add grapefruit essential oil. So good!

I just tried this, but it wasn't that liquid at all and my face turned all red. :O I guess my skin is way too sensitive for this.
-
Does it have to be EXTRA virgin olive oil? :D Because I have only Virgin olive oil. I don't know what's the difference between them.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this scrub! I use it all over my legs and arms as is, but for my face I rub it in the palm of my hand a bit before applying it to make the sugar a bit finer. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and moisturized!

I did this like 20 minutes ago.... I love how soft my skin is. I'm Chinese, adopted, but proud. I found you in third grade and fell in love with your tips and ideas. You are my role model, inspiration, and idol, not to mention most of my inspiration. Keep Rockin' Michelle!

So, I finally made and tried this out today. Though my mixture isn't the caramel color yours is (And I used exactly what you used and measurments) I will say... Damn my face feels good. Smooth as a baby's bottom and moisturized. I only put on my dark spot remover afterwords and called it a night.
I'm going to make my sister jealous because she doesn't believe in home remedies. :)

I was just about to make this the other day, I was laying out what I needed and realized... I had no extra virgin olive oil.
It made me sad.
