Hi everyone,
Cinema, one of the ultimate mediums of combining visuals and storytelling, has always been a particularly powerful source of inspiration for me. I am so excited about Joe Wright's highly anticipated Anna Karenina, starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, which came out on Friday. Based on Leo Tolstoy's novel of the same name and set in 19th century Russia, aristocrat Anna Karenina begins a passionate love affair with Count Vronksy, drastically changing both of their lives and sending shockwaves through Russian high-society.
Based on still shots from the film, the costume decoration and makeup are absolutely gorgeous. Keira Knightley is both radiant and melancholic as the title character, so I wanted to share with you how you can recreate her look at home.
The key to mastering this look is clean, matte, flawless skin and understated features. Skip the contouring and veer toward muted blush to give the impression of a natural flush. The eyebrows should be strong and bold, but the actual eyes are very soft and gentle. Think natural looking lashes with a small amount of dark brown shadow on the lower lash line and a very light pink eye shadow to open up the area a little. Avoid shimmery makeup at all costs for this look–you want to look as though you've stepped out of 19th century Russia!
Here's my guide to the makeup products you'll need to turn yourself into a 19th century high society Russian lady:
Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Coulour Balm in Sheer Peach, Maybelline Full n Soft Mascara, Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder, Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Shell, Makeup Forever Blush in Soft Pink 97, Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation, Shu Uemura Pressed Eye Shadow in M Dark Brown 895, Benefit Instant Brow Pencil in Deep
What do you think of Keira Knightley's look in Anna Karenina? Would you ever sport the look? Let me know in the comments section!

I watched it last night! Im loving the revlon whipped foundation but i try not to use foundation and stick to bb creams for minimal coverage. Its not too heavy. -

It's obvious Keira doesn't look as a Russian lady (I'm saying that since I'm a Russian myself and they look different, I can't even explain in what way), thought she definitely looks nice, I won't argue. And the make up is nice as well. It would be interesting to see a tutorial on Keira's look. -

She's a very beautiful person! I would rock this look, because it would me like "Me but better" look, haha. This will bring out anyone's natural beauty!!! -
I like the flower necklace and would wear it but the rest are a bit over the top for me.

Oh my Goooood, I love Keira Knightly. She is perfect for the role, and she was FANTASTIC in PoTC. Love those movies, what a character (Elizabeth Swan/Turner). Such a beautiful and stunning woman. I don't think I'd try this look, I think Keira is a better match for it. I've got pretty nice eyebrows, but I tend to like to bring out my eyes, cheekbones, and lips. I'd look scary with such defined eyebrows :( -
I really wanna see the movie! And I want to try to look, so pretty!

I'm not sure, and I certainly won't see this movie, but you're right about the costumes and makeup! Very nice! Thanks for the share! -
Take a look at the movie Anna Karenina, starring Vivienne Leigh, made in about l948. She is absolutely the most gorgeous creature ever, and compare the makeup. And the costumes by Cecil Beaton are magnificent. It comes on TCM channel now and then and it is such a treat. -
