New Tutorial: DIY Anti-Acne Honey Cinnamon Mask

Dec 5, 2012 at 5:50am by Michelle Phan

Hi everyone,

Yes, the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year, but the month of December isn’t what I could call stress free. And for many of us, that means breakouts. I am a huge fan of using face masks to help alleviate acne, so I thought I’d share with you my DIY honey cinnamon mask. Check out my latest tutorial for all the details:

The best thing about this face mask is that you can use it everyday, so take advantage of all the beauty benefits honey and cinnamon have to offer! I highly recommend using Manuka honey from New Zealand because of its strong antibacterial properties. Cinnamon will work to bring blood and oxygen back to your skin and to dry out the pimples. Honey and cinnamon are an unbeatable combination that any and all acne sufferers should incorporate into their skincare regime.

If you’re looking for ready-made ways to put cinnamon and honey to work on that beautiful face of yours, check out these products:

I use this mask, but I add nutmeg to it (about the same amount of cinnamon) and it's a great exfoliator!! This mask really works I love it!!

Coconut oil! I've been using it on my acne prone skin as a moisturizer and ohmygoddness my face has been looking so much clearer. It's helped rid my skin of acne and faded some of my acne scars a bit. I highly recommend it. Go for the unrefined oil.

@AKI - Use "fresh face" soy face wash cleanser than will bring down the redness and swelling. Use warm water, then pat gently some cold water on. Use a good night moiturizer to keep your face hydrated. I use avon night creme. Which actually heals my face. Not everyone can do masks. I can't either so I use eggs and oatmeal for my facial cleansing and tightening skin mask. I'll be doing a DIY tutorial on my blog soon. Check it out soon XOXO nanakkochan.blogspot.com

I totally tried this mask at night before going to bed, made it stay longer than 10 mins, about 30 mins. I also applied it on my lips. After cleansing it with warm water, OMG... MY FACE and LIPS WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOO SOFT! It felt like some of my pimples dried out a bit. Though my face felt a little dry afterwards, I managed to add a bit of moisturizer to keep it hydrated. However, I don't think I'll do this everyday. Probably once or twice a week.

This made me break out horribly!! Tried it two days straight and my skin bursted out in rage, haha. I only watched the video but NEVER read that it dried out pimples. I live in sweden, which means that the climate is super dry in the winter. So i guess i need the opposite, moisture?

Leaving them alone, warm compresses, and patience.... I would think it might be helpful. Also, a good OTC acne treatment system can do wonders if you find the right one for your skin type. See some good reviews and comparisons on them @ http://dermahealthreview.com/blog

Hi Pink! I would just get some organic tea tree oil and apply nightly. It should be gone in no time. If you do too much to your skin, it could make it worse and cinnamon is pretty powerful, so I would proceed with caution. : ) http://www.purelementnaturals.com

Hi Michelle. Love the natural diy recipe. I make my own stuff all the time. In Leena's case where the concoction exploded, I would just do a double boiler. That way you can keep an eye on the consistency of the honey and cinnamon and not have an explosion in the microwave. http://www.purelementnaturals.com/blog

Hi michelle! You know, i just tried this: first i put the honey, mixed it with the cinnamon just like u instructed, then i put it in the microwave for 30 secs, and it EXPLODED! it was so horrible! it was burning hot and i didn't know what to do! haha but in the end i finished the product and put it on and its amazing! though i recommend after the facial, that u put some argon oil! it feels GREAT on my skin right now!

Was it hot when you put it on your face? I found the best mask to be just plain aloe vera
