Outfitted: Meet the Parents
Hi everyone,
Meeting your significant other’s parents isn’t exactly the most stress-free event. You want to make a good impression and also let your true personality shine through. And of course, it all comes down to the question of the hour: what do I wear?! Personally, I think you can never go wrong with looking sweet because it gives you a bit of wiggle room to mix style and class. Think dress to impress without trying too hard. Here’s an outfit that I think would be perfect for meeting the parents:
You’ll definitely want to wear more modest hemlines and necklines, but that doesn’t mean you have to dumb down your style. Use this opportunity to accessorize tastefully! Let the small details in the outfit be a reflection of who you are. In my case, I used heels and a motorcycle jacket to throw in an edgier vibe with the Peter Pan collar and knee-length dress, and I also mixed textures to let my inner-fashionista shine through.
Not to sound like a broken record, but make sure that you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing! Your ensemble should be a confidence booster for you. Don’t wear anything you know you’ll need to adjust (i.e., dresses and skirts that are too short). Aim to walk through the door, and WOW your beau’s parents with your wonderful personality. Let your style and beauty be the added bonus that makes you feel good about yourself.

I met my boyfriends parents two years ago and i was completely thrown off... we just randomly ran into his parents when we were out and about and i was completely underdressed and unprepared! ahhh i nearly died :S anyway... i love this jacket michelle! xxxxxx

met my boyfriend's mother three years ago and i wore jeans and a nice shirt and just did my hair and make up. kept it casual until she asked me when i was having her grandchild!!! talk about awkward! -

I do not remember very well what I wear then, when first I entered his home.
I remember it was winter and I was wearing warm clothes, because I'm cold very easily.

I remember my bf asking if I wanted to join his family for Thanksgiving this year... But I was so taken aback that I panicked and said maybe next time. My biggest insecurity was my weight and what I would wear to meet them! Plus... it hadn't been more than 7-8 mths since we started dating, so it felt too soon for me. Thanks for the tip Michelle! I'll use it next year... when I HAVE to meet them. -
