Hi everyone,
In the picture above I am wearing a traditional Vietnamese dress called an ao dai. This "long dress" is actually made up of two parts: a tight fitting, two-paneled tunic with loose pants underneath. In modern day Vietnam, women wear ao dais as work/school outfits or for formal events and occasions... but it wasn't always this way.
Originally, the ao dai was a required dress code for people living in southern countries, in order to separate their identity under the reign of Nguyen Phus Khoat. The costume was plain and wasn't flattering to any body shape like it is today. Over the years, variations of the ao dai had between 4-5 separate panels in the topcoat and signified oriental cosmology and social class.
Today, the ao dai is no longer considered politically controversial, so a lot of women wear these dresses everyday to work/school and for other fun occasions, like weddings! Check out some photos of my ao dai I got to wear while I was in Vietnam.

In Ireland, the most culture you get in outfits are in Irish dancing costumes: traditional ones, that is. You don't see them often, but you can also get a lot of culture in places like Kerry, Galway and some parts of Dublin. I own a traditional African outfit, consisting of a short sleeved tshirt, ankle length skirt and headscarf. It has a lot of colour and pattern on it. It was made by my best friend's Grandmother, as they are an African family. I also own a tshirt from Nigeria. My wardrobe is actually very culture-ful, now that I think about it...

Beautiful Dress! :D Here in Greece every different state/region has its own "style" of traditional dress, (E.g In most regions ankle-length dresses are common where as in other parts hareem trousers are worn underneath a knee-length dress) and every village has different colouring and patterns. My village's traditional garment is a long, royal blue dress with long sleeves. It is accesorized with a black and gold embroidred apron, black tights and shoes and a cream headscarf :) People only wear these clothes when traditional dancing, on national holidays and in plays :)

The white one looks very flattering on you! Thank you for sharing the history of the dress, it was very interesting.
Kindness is the best accessory,

I'm Indian. We have a couple of tradional clothes, depending on the region and people wear them on an everyday basis! The sari is the most common tradional outfit. My mom has gorgeous ones and I'm always finding excuses to wear them! :D

In my country, every city and every village has it's own costume. Unfourtunately I don't have a costume, because my maternal grandmother is russian, my paternal grandmother is ungarian, and both my granddads are from another place in Romania. But I still love our traditional clothing. This is a pic from Sibiu :
