Hi everyone,
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: everyone should use an eye cream. Sometimes people associate eye cream with older women because most of the products target wrinkles and fine lines. But technically women should start using an eye cream as soon as they reach puberty. The skin around the eye produces very little oil, and once you hit puberty, the glands stop producing that oil. Hydration is a must! The skin around your eyes is much thinner and more delicate than other areas, so it's more prone to damage and will start showing signs of aging sooner.
If you don't use an eye cream already, start now. Using a regular facial moisturizer will not work. Although it may seem like an extravagant purchase, I promise you that you won't regret spending a little extra money to focus on your eyes. You'll thank me when you're older! Some creams target specific problems such as wrinkles, crow's feet, or dark circles. But there are also all-in-one products that will address multiple problems at once, so if you have two or more issues that you want to treat, use these creams.
Here are a few great eye creams that you can use:
- Mario Badescu Glycolic Eye Cream
- Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
- RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream
- Olay Age Defying Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream
- Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift Anti-Wrinkle Firming Eye Cream
To apply an eye cream, use your ring finger to scoop up a pea-sized amount of product. Then starting at the inner corner of your eye, lightly pat the product around the eye hollow, both above and below the eye itself. You can wear an eye cream during the day or at night. Key ingredients to look for in an eye cream are peptides, antioxidants, and retinol.

About a year or two ago. I didn't really made it part of my night time regime because it always left a heavy feeling on my eyelids that made me want to rub my eyes and thus removing what I just applied; maybe I applied too much back then... I'm trying to get back in the flow of applying eye cream since I have it I must as well put it to good use, right! -

Wow, I didn't know that! x'D
I've had dark circles since 4th grade due to depression problems, unhealthy eating habits, and lack of sleep.
Definitely will be looking for a good eye cream, now. -

Going to walgrens and spending money on moisturizers and eye creams is a waste of your time and money, I use extra virgin olive oil to moisturize and go to trader joes and pick up vitamin E oil. It acts naturally and when I leave it on overnight it protects my skin from dirt while giving me a baby smooth finish in the morning (by this time it has absorbed into my skin) without clogging up my pore with 100 different ingredients i cant even say. Natural ingredients like fruits veggies and minerals that come from the earth will always work better then the crap companies try to sell just to make a buck. Plus its wayyy cheaper in the long run if you by a huge bottle of olive oil that lasts years then buying a small 12 dollar cup every month with no real result but sensitive eyes and clogged pores. My mom has been using olive oil since she was 18 and shes 55 now and she doe not look a day over 40, also taking shots of olive oil is incredibly good for you!!!! and helps you live longer!!! -
I actually just started this a couple months ago and WOW this stuff is amazing! I use Sephora's Age Defy Eye Cream at night only and it has helped depuff my eyelids. The outer corner of my eyes are also dry, flaky, and super dark! Thanks to this Sephora product, they're visibly gone! LOVE LOVE LOVE! -
I've used eye treatments since I was twelve. I'm sixteen now, and go to a super competitive high school, and never get any sleep, so dark circles are a huge problem! My mom always tells me I look drunk and hungover. I use the Clinique all about eyes rollerball at night, and the even better eyes during the day, and it really works! Whenever I stop, they all come back. I'll be using these until the day I die. -
Hi Michelle, could you please suggest some good eye creams that can be bought in Europe especially in Germany. Because those suggested can't be found in Germany but online stores, and the problem is when I don't own a credit card to pay for them.
Thank you in advanced! -

Thanks for this advice, Michelle! Now I definitely have to start taking good care of my eye area. I noticed that I didn't have dark circles back in college, and I only got them when I started working as a nurse. I blame it on lack of sleep due to rotating shift schedules, especially working on night shifts.

Hey Killian do you have a link you could share for the stem cellular cream? And I totally agree with you, your lotions are so important, people who say they are not, have not taken their own personal time to try and see the difference. I always use my eye cream. Right now it's been the Anew from Avon. -
I started using eye cream since I turned 12 because my mom, who is a nurse, insisted. Since she doesn't look AT ALL her age I definetely listened to her, and now I'm reaping the rewards. I'm 23 years old, and people still ask me if I'm in 8th grade!!! I've used Clinique for a few years now, but because they started testing on animals I looked for an alternative: JuiceBeauty. I've only used their Stem Cellular Repair Eye Treatment for a few days now, but I can see a significant difference in my dark circles.
Now, regar

It's the cosmetic industry that makes you believe that you need an eye cream while you don't.
Do read www.jetskeultee.nl (page is available in English) and www.beautypedia.com
These are 2 women who actually studied cosmetics ingredients and what they do to the face. When you use an cream that feels great on the skin, but burns when you use it under your eye: you should take a look at the ingredient list.
The cream will probably be loaded with alcohol, fragrance or irritating oils like lavender, cinnemon ect. These ingredients, by the way, will cause inflammation and free radicals in the sun and thereby SPEED UP the aging process of the skin.
There are ingredients that can repair your skin and make it look more healthier like Niacinamide, beta glucan, Allantoïne, Green tea (though it's highly unstable), Dimethicone and many more.
If people want to use an eye cream: fine! go ahead! But don't expect miracles. There is no ingredient ON THE WORLD that will make a saggy eye area like it has been untouched by aging. The only ingredients that have actual ''anti-aging'' properties are retinol and Vitamin A acid (and the last one, in Europe, is only available when prescribed by a doctor).
And if a handcream is good formulated (like the Paula's Choice RESIST hand cream) it CAN be used on the face (doesn't have to, besides it might be a little drying for dry skins).
-
The use of eye cream is to prevent, not cure. If someone eyes are already saggy and wrinkly, there is no cure, only plastic surgery. Hence, to use it at a young age in hope that the above mentioned would be prevented. Also the eye area is thinner than the rest of the face, using normal moisturizer on eye area promotes oil seeds. These are a pain to get rid of, it took me a couple of years before they would go away.

It's common sense to know that each cream for your face is formulated for a certain area, like facial creams will most the time say, do not use around the eye area, because they have other ingredients in them that can damage the eye. That is why you use an EYE cream for the EYE area, and the ingredients are formulated to help the eye are....common sense tells you not to use a regular facial lotion around the eye. Just like there are neck and chest creams, hand creams all made for that area. * my hand cream has everything my eye cream does, think I will use it on my eyes, who cares if the are other ingredients that will burn and damage my eye* not trying to be rude to whom says I can use a face cream on my eyes, but I would NEVER do that. Thank goodness there are people like Michelle who take time to do their complete research. It's negative people that take away are positive teachers. So I thank you Michelle for all your tips and FACTS you give us, please never stop. I went to beauty school for skin care when I was younger, and they stressed why you use certain creams for certain areas, and the danger of other facial creams around the eye area and the damage that can be done to the eye for not using the right cream. I appreciate all of your post! Thank you for taking time for us each day! -
Dear Michelle,
like I said: you have A LOT TO LEARN WHEN IT COMES TO SKINCARE!
I respect you as a person and a make-up artist but please stop saying these things about skincare that just isn't true...
there is no, but absolutely NO SCIENTIFIC PROOF that eye creams work better then a regular moisturizer. You absolutly don't need a eye cream.
Maybe you do need a ''thicker'' or ''richer'' cream but you can save money on buying a big pump of face moisturizer then spending your money on a eye cream that you pay the same price for for just half the product.(and really choose a pump over a jarbecause a pump makes sure that antioxidants stay in, a jar doesn't).
If you don't believe me: start reading that ingredient list. What ingredient makes a eye-cream better then a regular face cream.
Look on www.beautypedia.com and go through the different ingredients..
