Canvas to Closet: Arthur Rackham

Hi everyone,

I am very excited to bring to you a new series on MichellePhan.com: Canvas to Closet! By looking at artwork, I will help you create outfits inspired by what you see on the canvas. To kick off Canvas to Closet, we’re going to take a look at Alice in Wonderland III by illustrator Arthur Rackham.

Rackham is best known for illustrating Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, Alice in Wonderland, Rip Van Winkle, and The Wind in the Willows. He had a unique style that vaguely resembles photography, and he really understood the myth and folklore at the core of the children’s books. I love his illustrations from Alice in Wonderland because they are whimsical but eerie at the same time. It’s this balance of light and dark that you’ll want to keep in mind when putting together an outfit.
