Over the years I’ve used so many different DIY face masks. I’ve experimented with tried-and-true remedies and made up plenty of my own. Of course all my successes have been shared with you. These DIY citrus face masks and beauty treatments are some of the best for refreshing and brightening, leaving you with a healthy spring glow. I think it’s finally time to have them all in one place. Enjoy!
I suggest trying these for your next girls’ night in. You don’t want to head out in the sunlight directly afterward, as your skin will be automatically more sensitive to its rays. And always spot test unfamiliar ingredients before use on your face!
Grapefruit facial toner. If you’ve heard me tout the benefits of grapefruit, you may have given citrus a try. Mix up fresh squeezed grapefruit juice with a little fresh lavender or mint for an astringent, oil-fighting toner. Let sit for a few hours or overnight and use as a spritzer to combat oily skin. Read my beauty benefits of grapefruit post for more must-try concoctions.
Orange juice face mask. Perhaps the simplest of them all, this face mask only requires two ingredients: a teaspoon of fresh OJ and a tablespoon of baking soda. It’s a classic that has been my go-to when I don’t want to splurge on fancy products to achieve fast results; the baking soda exfoliates and fights acne while the orange tightens and brightens with a surge of vitamin C. Leave on skin for twenty minutes, but don’t get freaked out when the paste starts to dry!
Lemon + honey face mask. Honey and lemon have always been a potent pair with their detoxifying and antimicrobial properties. Mix them together with a dash of cinnamon to reduce redness, and you’ve got yourself a powerful anti-acne mask that eliminates toxins and promotes bright, clear skin.
And because we all know good skin care requires a body skin care routine, too…
DIY citrus sugar scrub that’s easy to whip up and even easier to customize to your liking. For this, you’ll need two parts coconut oil in liquid form, an exfoliator such as granulated sugar, a couple drops of essential oil of your choice, and a teaspoon (or more as needed for larger batches) of lemon juice. You can also add a little honey in the mix too. This website has some great scrub recipes as well.
