Yesterday, I told you all about the amazing properties of jojoba oil. Now, I’m going to go over with you how to do a basic at-home jojoba rinse.
Hair oils can be expensive and confusing, but this treatment is affordable, flexible and very easy to do on your own. All you need is pure jojoba oil (which can be purchased at most markets or health foods stores), a towel, and a shower cap!
Here’s what to do:
- Heat up some jojoba oil. You can do this either on the stove or in a microwave, but an easy way to do it is to pour some oil in a ziploc bag and submerge the bag in hot (not boiling) water.
- Apply the oil to your hair and scalp and massage it in. Anywhere from 1 – 2½ tablespoons is a good amount. If you have long hair, it is also easy to dip your ends into the ziploc and soak up the excess oil with them.
- Put on a shower cap to keep it all contained, and then wrap a warm towel around your head like you would after taking a shower.
- Wait at least 20 minutes and rinse your hair.
That’s it! You can repeat this process weekly. This is a great treatment to do in colder months, since it really moisturizes as well as protects your hair from damaging winds and low temperatures. For a more intense treatment, you can sleep with the shower cap on and wait to wash your hair in the morning. You can also add a few drops of jojoba oil to your conditioners for extra moisture and shine!
