Decorating your dorm is a major milestone in life. It’s a rite of passage for college-goers, and likely the first time you’ve ever had the opportunity to decorate your very own, independent space. If you share the space with a roommate, it’s fun to be able to create a fabulous living area together. After you’ve collected all your back to school goodies for the year and any dorm necessities, it’s time to think décor.
Storage – When you live in a small space, décor must serve a purpose. Swap out any unsightly plastic tubs for a storage tote in your favorite color.
Cute Accents – Artwork doesn’t have to take up a lot of room or puncture holes in the wall (which can cause problems down the road). Small figurines or motifs add personality to a desk or shelf. These geometric figures could probably serve as book ends, too. Always look for items that can serve multiple purposes!
Throw Blankets & Pillows – Adding a typography pillow or a throw blanket with an interesting design makes your dorm truly feel like home. Trust me, when you’re sleeping on a mattress that’s not your own, every detail counts!
Organizational Tools – From boxes to sets of drawers and jewelry holders, having a few tools to keep things organized is a must on your vanity or desk. A clear acrylic box is a chic way to display your small items and it encourages you to keep a tidy space ;)
Art Prints – Instead of giant frames or canvases, adorn your dorm space with sweet and simple art prints. You can find a variety of amazing illustrations online at home décor sites or places like Etsy or Society6. And if you’re an artist, why not create your own?
Are you living in a dorm this year? Tell me about it in the comments!
