One of the hardest parts to master when you first begin wearing makeup is eyeliner. In your teens, you can smear a pencil liner on too dark and not close enough to your waterline; or you can encase your entire eye in what turns out to be unflattering raccoon eyes. It’s not until we get older, with much more practice, that we discover what look complements our face best and what formula of eyeliner becomes our go-to. There are creams to be applied with brushes, pencils to be swiped across our lids and liquid liners that take a steady hand. While each type of eyeliner can create a specific look, some of us find one we love and stick with it (like most things in life). But if you’ve never truly felt like you’ve mastered the art of eyeliner – product that stays put (oily lids causing problems?), is applied straight as an arrow and shows no noticeable gaps on our lash line – then this trick is for you! And to all my Subbies who like experimenting with different liner looks, pay attention as well.
Step 1: Apply Pencil Liner First
Apply a long-lasting pencil liner like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner as close to your lashes on your eyelid. The pencil will give you more control to create a straight line and provide the right amount of coverage to prevent any gaps between liner and lash line. To make sure you’ve created a strong line, apply pencil liner on the underneath side of your lash line by placing your finger in the crease of your eye and pushing your lashes out. Then run the pencil at the base of your lashes.
Step 2: Apply Liquid Eyeliner
Now is the time to not only achieve holding power, but also create a bolder eyeliner look. Swipe your liquid liner, in a matching shade, over the pencil liner you’ve already applied. Now, if there is any bleeding of product, it won’t be seen. Even better, your slightly shaky hand won’t sabotage your style. Oh, and don’t forget to shake your liquid liner before applying – shaking mixes the product and limits the chance for bleeding liner. You can try one of the brand new em Scribble Calligraphy Liquid Liner (it applies like a dream) or a classic like Lancôme Artliner Precision Point Eyeliner.
With this power combo you can work on more important things like perfecting your cat eye. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!
