Hey guys, I am looking for a good camera (not a point and shoot) but like a professional kind of camera that blurs out the background. I believe they are called DSLR cameras, and there are extensions you can buy with them. I was wondering if you guys knew any that I could get for under $300. (My parents might get one for me for graduation. I don't want to push over that because after all it is a gift, and I should be thankful that I get one.) I will probably just be using it to take pictures of nature (in my backyard), friends, and artistic photos.

urm i am not sure about dollars but i have a nikon d60 which is brilliant it comes with a standard lens but i have got some brilliant photos with it. I personally think that nikon have some of the best photography cameras going but it really depends on how offer you are going to use it and lens can get very expensive. My personal advice would to go into a camera store and tell the adviser what you are looking for and they can recommend the type of camera and also show you how to use it :D hope this helps a little

Thanks! I have no clue on where to buy them at though... I haven't seen any camera shops in my area, but I'll look it up on google maps.

The Canon s95 is a very good point and shoot compacted digital camera. It has so many features such as changing the color tone of the picture, fisheye effect, miniacture effect, etc. And this one is extremely good under low light circumstances. I bought this recently for $368 on ebay. I know this might be a little bit over your buget, but it'll last a long time.

Canon Rebel XS for around $300-$400

Go for the body only.

Try ebay, look up online. I personally would not mind buying one used if it's in proper condition. Some people take wonderful care of it and then really get into photography, decide to upgrade to a different camrea body within a few months and have a camera body collecting dust.

You want a lens with a good depth of field.

So buy the 50mm 1.4 lens separate. Keeping in mind that most lenses are in the $500 range, this is a steal for around $100.

That's if you really want a DSLR. it's real cheap compared to the other bodies/lense.

Canon Rebel XS comes with a kit lens but it's around $600!

Redstar - You can check out this place for your DSLR

Michelle - I like the Panasonic because of its design and wide angel Leica lens. I have been using it for years and its great.
