Let’s face it, fashion can be tricky. It seems like there are a lot of rules when it comes to style and trends. While I think it’s important to always do what makes you most comfortable and happy, it’s nice to have a rule of thumb when you need it.

Heels are such a fabulous accessory because they take both your outfit and your confidence up a notch. Here’s a guide you can pin to look back on when you’re not sure of the correct heel for the occasion on your calendar. Hope it helps!

Perfect Heel Height

2 & 3″
Perfect for:
School or work, where comfort is a must. Even if you’re not standing constantly, being on the move throughout the day can take its toll. Not only that, but some office settings require a more conservative look, and a kitten heel like the pair above is an alternative to flats. They’re sweet and feminine, and always look adorable with spring dresses! This makes them perfect for formal outdoor events such as weddings as well.

3.5 – 4.5″
Perfect for:
A dinner party with coworkers or a date night. This height is classic and polished, and comes in pretty much every style you can imagine, from block heels to stilettos. It works for weddings and special events as well, but make sure to find a comfortable pair that fits the occasion right. Rock this heel height whenever you want to dress up your outfit a bit without much effort.

If you prefer this height but aren’t sure if you can get away with it in the workplace, try wearing a sleek black or nude pair first to test the waters–it will be much less surprising to a manager than bright pumps.

5″+
Perfect for:
Honestly, not everyone loves strutting a super high heel, whether out on the town or not. But sky-high heels can be fun once you learn to walk in them! If you’re comfortable with adding 5″+ to your height, wear these with your favorite mini dress while out with girlfriends or at a party. Just be sure to bring a pair of flats along for later in the night!

Do you wear heels? What occasions call for high heels in your opinion?
