Prom Perfect: How to Prep and What to Bring

Hi everyone,

May is finally here, which means warmer weather, tanner limbs (easily faked, if you happen to live somewhere the sun is still hiding :), and for a lot of my subbies, the end of the school year. And you know what the end of the school year means…prom!!  Prom is an incredibly special night, and I know that I looked forward to my own for weeks in excitement.  After all, what’s not to like about dressing up, getting done up and dancing the night away with your friends?  Because so many of you have been requesting prom tutorials, I’m focusing on this special night for my next few videos.  But before we get into prom makeup, I wanted to cover some prom night basics first.  Check out my video below to hear my advice on everything you need to do before the big night:

Prepping your body before prom is important, but another important thing to plan out before hands is what to put in the purse you’re using.  Chances are, you’ll be using a tiny clutch or bag much smaller than your everyday purse, so it’s important to prioritize what to keep and what to leave – trust me, no one wants to carry around a bag at prom that’s stuffed within an inch of it’s life! To help you prioritize, I’ve come up with a 5 must-bring items that make the cut:

1.) Blotting paper:
Skip the bulky powder compact and bring these lifesavers instead.  Just make sure to blot, not wipe! If you’ve somehow forgotten them, rip off a small piece of the toilet seat covers found in most bathrooms and use that instead – I know it sounds weird, but it will get you through in a pinch!

2.) Lip gloss:  If I had to pick between bringing lipstick and lip gloss, I would go with the gloss – it’s way easier to apply and won’t accidentally smudge and get all over your face.  It’s common to start off the night with lipstick and slowly transition to gloss throughout the night.  (Make sure to check out my tips on making your lipstick last as long as possible!

3.) Bobby pins: A lot of you will have gorgeous, fancy updos – don’t let them go to waste! Keep any stray curls in place with bobby pins.

4.) Safety pins: Bring one or two of these just in case.  You can never be too prepared for a wardrobe malfunction…

5.) Mints/gum: Find a mini-pack of mints, or just stick a couple sticks of gum in your purse to make sure your breath stays fresh throughout the night.  Your date will thank you :)

And there you have it! Of course, remember to bring cash, your ID and ticket too.  Make sure to check back tomorrow for my tips on making your makeup last throughout the night!
