With warmer (and more humid) days comes a need to switch up your scent routine – after all, your wintery musks might feel just a little out of place between all your beach runs and smoothie-sipping. But with the hundreds of perfumes on the market, how are you supposed to know which one to choose as your “signature” summer scent? Try these tips:
Think about what you love: Close your eyes for a moment and think about summer – what do you love about it? If it’s the beach, then look for perfumes with notes of sandalwood, sea spray or coconut. If it’s your garden, look for light floral fragrances featuring rose or jasmine. If you’re more of an entertainer, consider a scent with fruity top notes like lychee or mandarin orange.
Wear it before you buy it: The thing about summer scents is that your body will sweat more while wearing them than during the winter. In other words, your body heat and unique chemistry may cause the perfume to smell differently an hour or two after you spend time outdoors. My advice? If you’re at a mall, always visit the perfume counter first. Spray a different scent on each wrist and come back after you’ve finished all your other shopping. You want to love the heart and base notes, which will linger. Or, ask for a sample! Most perfume counters are more than happy to give you a couple to try at home.
Go light: Try an eau de toilette version of your summer scent instead of an eau de parfum. EDT formulas are less concentrated and tend to be lighter, leaving less of a scent trail
