Hi everyone,

Are you familiar with “umami?” Umami is a term taken from the Japanese language that refers to one of the taste senses. There are four traditional ‘primary’ tastes–sweet, sour, salt, bitter–that determine how people taste their food, and umami is now known to be the fifth primary taste: savory. According to the Umami Information Center, “the taste of umami itself is subtle and blends well with other tastes to expand and round out flavors,” so, “most people don’t recognize umami when they encounter it, but it plays an important role making food taste delicious.”

Enter Umami Burger. The entire menu at this burger restaurant is inspired by and built around the concept of umami, so it’s not your traditional burger. I recently ate at one of their locations, and the food was amazing! Here are some pics I snapped of the meal:

They have 5 locations in Southern California; so if you live nearby, check them out!
