Hi Everyone,
It may seem like an exaggeration, but our skin care routine is EVERYTHING. How we treat our skin affects how our makeup looks and how we age. It also helps us from troublesome skin issues and can lessen signs of skin discoloration. But with all of the products on the market and each cream and wash serving a different purpose, it’s hard to keep it all straight. Am I supposed to moisturize my face before applying eye cream? Or is that serum supposed to go on after my toner? It can be confusing to say the least!
Since the purpose of lotions and serums is to penetrate the skin, allowing active ingredients to work their magic, the order these products are applied is of the utmost importance. To ensure you’re doing it right – nourished skin and a youthful face aren’t far away – follow these steps:
A helpful tip to keep in mind is to apply products that are lightweight first and then build up to thicker ones. After you’ve washed your face apply toner, then begin building up in this order.
Serum
Serums cater to a variety of skin concerns. These nutrient-rich treatments can absorb deep into your skin providing you with vitamin C, E and a range of other helpful ingredients that will do wonders for your face. There are formulas for brightening, acne prevention and more. Both oil or water-based, serum are usually in gel form and won’t leave your face feeling gummy.
Eye Cream
There are a lot of issues associated with our eyes. Well, issues WE believe we have – dark circles, crows feet, puffiness. Does it ever end?! In order to fix these and moisturize your skin (creating the perfect base for concealers and eyeshadows), add an eye cream to your daily routine.
Moisturizer
In the morning you want to apply a moisturizer to banish dry skin and set the stage for makeup application. Again, nourished skin is key to a beautiful face – made up or makeup free! In the evening, give your face a thick slathering of lotion and let the product’s powers penetrate and repair your skin as you sleep.
Extra steps - If your skin is extremely dry, then incorporating a facial oil into your routine may help bring your skin back to life. Face oils should be applied after your moisturizer. Lastly, a blemish can ruin your day, that’s why if you’re using a spot treatment apply it first. You’ll want its active ingredients to grab hold of your blemish and knock it out immediately.
